User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050110 Firefox/1.0 (Debian package 1.0+dfsg.1-2) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050110 Firefox/1.0 (Debian package 1.0+dfsg.1-2) Firefox should not use the default application to open folders, the "Open with" feature for folders is actually no longer available in GNOME 2.8* and even if it was, I guess users expect the file manager to start when they select "Show folder". * http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151747 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right click a directory in Nautilus and select an application in the "Open with " tab, for example XMMS. 2. Try to click on "Show folder" in the Download preferences, XMMS starts. 3. Try to click on the selected folder "All files downloaded to:" in the Firefox download manager, XMMS starts.
We're not going to try to work around a debatable bug in GNOME 2.8. If you set folders to open by default in a non-Nautilus app, then why should we ignore that setting? If GNOME doesn't want changing of associations for folders, they should disable it completely (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152407). Whatever they choose, its up to the OS to decide how to handle objects, we're not going to reinvent the wheel here.
