Found using 20050120 Firefox 1.0+, but I have seen this on the trunk builds the
past few days,

STR:

1. Using Thunderbird mail (1.0), I click on a link to go to a Bugzilla URL. On
the Mac, this freezes the app and doesn't allow you to do anything. On Windows,
it launches the start page instead of taking me to the Bugzilla URL.

Expected: The Bugzilla URL should launch. Tested using FF 1.0 and this works
fine. Need to find the regression window.
this regressed on windows builds between 2005-01-17-08-trunk(works as expected)
and 2005-01-18-15-trunk (only opens homepage)

Probably fallout from bug 276588 - ccing bsmedberg
I explicitly tested these codepaths before checkin. Can I get details about the
builds involved (self-built, zips, installed), and whether this is using the
regular commandline or windows DDE?
Benjamin: When I was testing the Win XP build I was using the installer. On Mac
there is only one choice. Tracy also tested Windows, not sure which build he used.
I used installers.
Cool, I traced this down, patch shortly.

fixed on trunk. Can I express my appreciation for these quick QA reports? They
make tracking down regressions *much* easier.

Though after the fact, the title of this bug should be changed, to "Unable to
launch URL links from any program with Firefox set as default browser".

I thought I was going crazy and stopped using optimized builds because of this,
also stopped using some tabs extensions thinking it was them. Just pulled the
beast build and all my external url calls, thunderbird included, work just fine
now, thanks for the great work.

See? Some of these nightly testers, with their whining and complaining actually
DO help and have a role in the development process. :-)
Perhaps the nightly QA people feel unloved, but you do a valuable service for
the hackers who sometimes spend weeks in their own hacked-up builds and never
use a downloaded build. I always appreciate good bug reports (though not whining
and complaining).
looks good on windows Fx trunk build 2005-01-21-07-trunk

will let marcia verifiy against Mac
This doesn't work correctly yet on Mac OS X.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050121
Firefox/1.0+ (PowerBook)
(OS X 10.3.7)
Checking Console.app, I see this:
Warning: unrecognized command line flag -psn_0_20578305

FireFox JS Console only gives this:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff
(NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getCharPref]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff
(NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)"  location: "JS frame ::

Using today's build, I am still having to Force-Quit when I have the FF build
open and try to launch a link from Thunderbird.
philippe, are you seeing what marcia sees in comment 0 and comment 16?

should we reopen this bug, or open a new one for this mac hang issue?

Same behaviour as in comment #0, except I use Mail.app instead of Thunderbird.
Same problem with NetNewsWire (2.0b10).

(I had filed Bug 279194, which tells what I see, problem started with the 01/18
build, I use the powerbook builds, which are identical to the official nightly
builds, but optimized for PowerBooks).

Let's leave this bug about this windows issue, which is fixed, and reopen or
file a new bug about the mac issues. The only mac I have access to is MF
planetoid, and it is running out of disk space and I can't always open a VNC
session. Assistance getting access to one of the other QA macs could be very
helpful (or cleaning up diskspace on planetoid).
okay, I'm reopening bug 279194 to cover the remaining Mac issue.
