User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Bookmark and its bak file are erased; at the same time the browser is reverted
to default setting. I am using firefox 1.0 in window XP with SP1.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Actual Results:
No idea how to reproduce it. This morning the problem happened when I first
opened the browser. It was fine last night when I last used it. Nobody ever
accessed my machine.

Expected Results:
The bookmark should be intact without a user changes it. And the bak file should
be the same. Further, the browser should not automatically reversed to default
setting without a user changes it.
Did you have a system crash/BSOD before?

My entire bookmark list has vanished at least 3 times since I've started using
firefox. Where does it go??? I'm about ready to return to IE - despite the
pop-ups and insecurity. I did have a system crash yesterday, but thought I had
already closed firefox at the time.

Help!
If your settings are reverting along with your bookmarks disappearing, that's
your profile being recreated (or a new one being created), rather than a
Bookmarks thing.

At least confirm that this is not what is happening. If that is the case the
issue is being tracked in bug 253950 , see this site to see where you profile
resides and look for the bookmarks.html file:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

If all that changed was the bookmarks became empty, i.e not returning to the
default set, then that would suggest this is a data loss bug in Firefox
otherwise I doubt it's a Firefox issue. In either case this bug will be marked
invalid because if the developers can't reproduce it the best they can do is
sympathise.
I have the same problem when i close multiple tabs. My system crash i have a
blue screen on windows 2000 sp4 and i must reset. Then the firefox lost bookmarks
an settings became to default. Very serious bug i think...

I would like to add Windows XP SP2 to the list of platforms where this bug has
surfaced. I'm currently using Firefox 1.0.1

My bookmarks have been automatically wiped out atleast three times now. Windows
hasn't crashed before or after this occurs so I can't say that this bug can be
attributed to system instability. I installed the following extension after
this happened for the first time: http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/?extension=bb

I did a Google search and sure enough a lot of people seem to be noticing this
behaviour:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=firefox+bookmarks+gone&btnG=Search&num=20&hl=en

All of my bookmarks disappeared last night. I closed Firefox and copied the
bookmark files from my backups into my profile folder and restarted the browser.
Everything appeared to be fine and now the bookmarks have vanished again.

I double checked and I'm not affected by the issue noted in this comment:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=279339#c4
(In reply to comment #5)
Based to comment 5, I believe it is a memory/registry issue...

can y'all post your hardware specs to see if there are any links...
I believe this relates to the issues of 'profile corruption' that seems to
happen quite often. Whenever Firefox is exited improperly (whether through a
crash, or the operating system crapping itself, etc) it will lock the profile,
and sometimes, randomly, it appears to create a new profile, out of the blue,
without prompting. In other instances, it will bring up the profile manager,
and ask you to make a new profile, because the other one can't be accessed. I
posted a 'solution' to this issue on page 2 of this Mozillazine thread, it
describes how to 'fix' the problem. It isn't the best or nicest solution in the
world, but it will work.

I can't find the bug that this should be duped to, but I know there is one.
Leaving this unconfirmed and adding dupeme to the status whiteboard.
