Calender reminders do not appear until the calendar is loaded, is there any way the events could trigger from the browser / email system

Would it be possible to be reminded from events in the calendar when you have
any other mozilla products open? (browser / email / irc etc.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add a reminder to the calendar
2.Close the calendar
3.Use the browser, no reminder activates until the calendar is re-opened

Expected Results:
It would be good if reminders were not reliant on the canlendar being open
This is closely related to bug 134969 which asks for alarms to pop up when
Calendar isn't running.
