the first comment is wrong but the attached testcase as the following snippet trigger the assert. <BODY style="display:inline"> <div> <DIV STYLE="float:left;"></DIV> </div> </BODY>

Still happens on trunk with testcases 2 and 3. I ran into this assertion while playing with bug 306663.
