User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1

Using Tablet PC Edition of Microsoft OS and when pen is placed on Tablet PC no
icon to bring up writing window exists as in all other applications. I can not
use my features for hand writing text into Firefox unless I use the icon at the
bottom of the desktop in the quick launch menu which is inconvenient. This
occurs in all Firefox windows despite the url I am at.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Using Tablet PC Windows OS on a tablet PC open a Firefox window 9or any
application).
2. Place the tablet pc pen to the screen and tap.
3. Await for an icon to show which will allow you to open the handwriting windows.

Actual Results:
Nothing in Firefox.

Expected Results:
After tapping the pen in the area where you want text to be entered there should
be an icon appearing on the screen which would allow you to enable the onscreen
writing available in the Tablet PC Windows OS.

Agreed - this is the same bug. There is an extension which fixes this behaviour:
it's available at: http://www.thadk.net/~thadk/tpcfirefox/

Note that this is a hacked version of the extension on mozdev which needs some
support.

I think this is a dupe of bug 88831. Jim, you can test this by setting "intl.enable_tsf_support" to true - it's not enabled by default yet.

Yes it does, why haven't we enabled this by default?

IIUC, it's a victim of the schedule delay. It missed the original feature freeze by a couple weeks in October because of review delays, and then just got stuck in the bug for a couple months because there was no trunk and then no one landed it on trunk once it did open. And it didn't work perfectly when it did land, so it hasn't ever been on by default. That's the consequence of schedule slips: The things that could have gotten in if we knew there would be enough time for them don't make it.

As it basically rewrites the entire IME system, I don't think you'll be able to get it in despite that I see that you're trying, as it'll also need big changes that Masayuki's been working on for a couple months or so, plus it even has UI changes like bug 338209 which noone likes at the moment (well, at least I don't :).
And actually I remember seeing a comment (can't find where) that roc tried to get it in a week past that freeze in fall and was turned down because it was too risky. (Or something like that.)
