User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98) Build Identifier: 1.8b2 2005032406 On several different web pages/sites (but not every time on any page) my whole PC locks up - mouse and keyboard frozen. No error messages, no HDD activity, nothing. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't work - the only option is the reset button. After a reboot the browser will behave normally for an unpredictable length of time but usually within an hour it will lock up again. I have enabled Talkback but it doesn't start up in this circumstance. I also have had the same symptoms with Firefox 1.0.1 and 1.0.2. These events happened several times today with my first ever install of Mozilla on this machine. It has never happened with any version of Internet Explorer. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Standard Mozilla install with latest nightly download. 2.No other apps running. 3.Browse any number of (reputable) websites. Actual Results: Total system freeze. Expected Results: Completed rendering the page. Default Mozilla/Firefox theme. Epox MVP3G5 mainboard (VIA chipset), AMD K6-2 500MHz CPU (not overclocked). 196MB RAM. Matrox Millenium G200 graphics. Latest recommended drivers for all components and latest Windows Updates for 98SE. Hijackthis indicates no spyware or trojans. AntiVir Personal Edition virus scanner. Cybersitter. Process Explorer log shows what is normally running on my PC (excepting Mozilla): Process PID CPU Description Company Name Idle 0x0 95.57 System Idle Process KERNEL32.DLL 0xFFEF5AC1 0.39 Win32 Kernel core component Microsoft Corporation MSGSRV32.EXE 0xFFFF1AE1 Windows 32-bit VxD Message Server Microsoft Corporation SPOOL32.EXE 0xFFFF1299 Spooler Sub System Process Microsoft Corporation MPREXE.EXE 0xFFFF044D WIN32 Network Interface Service Process Microsoft Corporation SAGENT4.EXE 0xFFFF8A75 1.08 SAgent4 SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION mmtask.tsk 0xFFFE6609 Multimedia background task support module Microsoft Corporation EXPLORER.EXE 0xFFFE1571 0.10 Windows Explorer Microsoft Corporation PDESK.EXE 0xFFFEFFD5 0.10 PDesk Matrox Graphics Inc. I have read in other bug reports that system hangs are always caused by hardware faults or video driver faults in Win2k and XP, and cannot be caused by Mozilla. Is this also *always* the case in Windows 98SE?

It's true in any operating system. Managing the apps that are running is one of the primary jobs of the operating system. Try a newer video driver, or an older one. Or disable hardware acceleration. Memory is the next most likely culprit. You can try memtest86, or just remove one chip of RAM at a time and see when your computer and Mozilla play nicely together. resolving INVALID -- this is not a Mozilla bug good luck
