dunno if this should go to saari; reassign where appropriate. :-) saw this on linux, mac and winNT using the opt comm bits, 2000022308. 1. go to the above ftp site. 2. try to scroll by hitting Page Down, Page Up or the spacebar. result: no scrolling occurs. still able to drag the thumb widget to scroll, though --and those keys do still work on html pages (for the most part; see bug 26658).

I have no idea why FTP is different than web pages, but I'll take a look...

aaronl, did you really mean moz1.1? [unless you meant moz0.9.1] not being able to scroll ftp listings --esp large ones like ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/ --via the keyboard is a real pain...

We don't appear to use XUL for this anymore - test URL comes up in HTML and page keys work. Marking WORKSFORME

Linux 2001071608 Doesn't work for me. Can't scroll in the URL until I click to set focus on the listing. I have this problem on http: pages too, occasionally. This is probably a more general problem of pagedown/etc not working due to focus being at the URL bar or elsewhere. Other thinks like ^W to close window, ^U for source also often don't work. Using keyboard control for mozilla right now still really bites, but considering it wasn't even possible for 4.7, I figured it was low priority and didn't file anything yet.

Workaround: hit tab three times to focus the document part of the window, hit down arrow to bring up the selection bar, now page up and down will work. Focus should be given to the document as soon as it starts to load.
This has nothing to do with it being an ftp page though does it? You could be experiencing 58250. Also, is your sidebar open? I really think this is resolved - the original bug was because we used XUL for ftp pages, now it's like every other page.
I think this bug was originally filed about the directory viewer that used to be used for ftp and file and is now used only for file and gopher (I think). Right now PgUp/PgDn work for me on file URLs once I click to select a file and give focus, but it ought to have focus even without that...

Given the <tree>-><listbox> changes, which mean that <tree> will become <outliner> automatically (and my current time constraints), I'm going to push this off for the moment. 0.9.8 is out for me, so that means 0.9.9 The bugs being changed this way either require <outliner> support, or would be a lot easier with such support
Target Milestone: mozilla0.9.7 → mozilla0.9.9
OK, moving all XUL dirviewer bugs to post 1.0. I don't want to be doing this, but there are only so many hours in the day. These will be taken earlier if someone submits a patch, or I find time.

aaronl: is there a plan for fcc508 bugs? it would seem to me that fcc508 bugs should be mozilla1.0 blockers. If the only problem described here is a result of <tree>s instead of <outliner>s then perhaps this bug should sit on the near side of 1.0 blocked by the tree -> outliner bug (which somehow blocks shipping mozilla1.0).

I'll happily take a patch, but I think that this may be due to how the xul document is hacked into place, and so may be messy. Note that the xul viewer will probably not be on by default for 1.0...
-> 1.1, since the dirveiwer will not be on by default RSN

xul dirviewer bugs -> 1.2. I have no time..
Target Milestone: mozilla1.1alpha → mozilla1.2alpha
This is solved now, since ftp listing is no longer handled by Xul see Bug #67684
err, no this bug is clearly about the xul dirviewer. the fact that it didn't have working keyboard navigation doesn't change just because we don't use it.
We don't use this -> minor

XUL is gone. Closing. Please file a new bug if specific keyboard navigation issues are found.
