The "set as wallpaper" item in Firefox's context menu for images does not work with many X window managers. There are several methods in place for setting wallpapers, and I feel that the variety is too wide to be able to offer such a feature on Linux or other simlar operating systems. Gnome sets the wallpaper differently than KDE, while in Fluxbox, the wallpaper is set yet another way. I use XFCE 4, and the "set as wallpaper" function does not work for me.
For clarification, I think that the feature should be removed altogether on X11 platforms because of the complexity involved in detecting which window manager is running, etc.
That's not going to happen. Maybe a check to see if it is GNOME/Metacity, and not show it otherwise. Ripping out a feature that works on our target *nix platform because it doesn't work on all of the fragments of the Linux desktop just isn't going to happen, sorry.
But can it be checked easily? I mean, if so, that's fine too.
I do not see "Set as Wallpaper" in the context menu in my Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5 Whats up?
