User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; de-de) AppleWebKit/312.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/312
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050427 Camino/0.8.4

With the release of 0.8.3 I wanted to switch from my previous 0.8.2. Have been a happy Camino user
since Chimera-days. Unfortunately, 0.8.2 and up became unusably slow. I haven't been able to track it
down yet.
System: PB G4 1.33 12" 1.25GB, OS X 10.3.9

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Launch Camino.app
2.First page (http://www.heise.de) is loading as usual
3.Open a new tab

Actual Results:
- opening a tab takes *ages* (> 1 minute) and is causing a beach ball cursor with 100% CPU load
To solve, I tried:
- Stripped down my bookmarks.plist file from >3 MB to <1 MB (in Camino 0.8.1)
- Deleted my profile in ~/Library/Application Support/Camino
- Imported bookmarks.plist

Before I stripped the bookmarks.plist the browser was simply unusable. Now, after waiting about 40
seconds I can continue :-(
A virgin installation appears to work though.

Expected Results:
Open the site in a new tab without serious delay.

But by the way - keep up the good work and perfecting that wonderful browser :-)

I don't know, if this bug is "critical", but according to bugzilla's description, it is ('The software hangs').
Using 0.8.4 on Tiger, I can't confirm. Opening that page works fine for me.

However, I do see some strange and even invalid tags scattered throughout the
page. This could be part of the problem. Also, there appears to be some "Real"
stuff in there, which could be causing the slowdown. As I don't have Real
installed, I wouldn't see it at all.

Does it hang when you open the site in a new tab? Or when the site is open and
you open a new, blank tab? (Or both)
Deleted all Flash and Real references from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and in ~/Library/Internet Plug-
Ins/
Seems to cure a bit, but doesn't eliminate the issue.

My procedure for running quickly into the error:
* Start page "http://www.heise.de"
* Open Camino.app
* Pressing <Apple - T> 15 times to open 15 empty tabs
* Switch to the 1st tab (which loads heise.de)
* Heavy scrolling w/ mousewheel (several [~3] times down/up full stroke to saturate event buffer)
* The first time, beach ball appears focus on another task (e.g. by klicking the desktop)
* If nothing happens after 15 seconds, I'd call this a hang in the app
  -> sometimes, you can quit the app by selecting "Quit" from the dock
  -> sometimes, Camino caon only be force-quit

Could this be related to bug 143303? I have often noticed Camino using 30-40% of
my cpu when nothing appears to be going on, over many many versions (currently
using nightly 2005051014 on 10.3.9). When that happens, performance degrades as
described here (extremely slow to react to mouse clicks, scrolling, window
minimize, etc).
While at the start of thread 143303 I couldn't see a coincindence, but post #9
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=143303#c9) could indeed be just
the same thing I am running into.
As a preliminary solution, I had to delete about 80% of my bookmarks.
Please update, if not done so I will close this bug.
Error description was not specific enough. Couldn't track it down to a special case. Appears to have
improved with newer versions, but hasn't completely dissolved.

I'm using the latest nightly build. I've noticed that Camino gets ridiculously slow when trying to use multiple tabs of late. For example. Opening just this page has 6.5% CPU use (1GHZ G4). Opening this page with apple.com in the background skyrockets Camino's CPU use to between 65% and 75% and makes the app totally unresponsive. Closing the background apple.com tab (which is hard to do because everything is so slow) restores relatively normal performance. Opening the other tab to something simple like Google doesn't hurt the performance as badly, but while that other tab is loading it's impossible to multi-task within the app.

The apple.com slowdown is probably due to our failing on their "scrolling iPod" graphic that sometimes graces the main page. When you refresh, you'll get a new one (or can get a new one at least). Getting the new, static image should bring your computer back to normal. As far as slowing down a lot, the relavant bugs are bug 301404 and bug 307251 to which this bug could probably be duped to...
