spun off from bug 241245. tested with 2005052410-trunk (deer park) bits on linux fedora core 3 (using gnome UI). 1. in Prefs > Downloads, select the radiobutton for "Ask me where to save every file." 2. save and dismiss Prefs. 3. click on a downloadable link such as the following: ftp://mozilla.isc.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-05-24-06-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.win32.installer.exe ftp://mozilla.isc.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-05-24-06-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.win32.zip ftp://mozilla.isc.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-05-24-10-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.linux-i686.installer.tar.gz 4. in the resulting "Opening [filename]" dialog, select the "Save to Disk" radiobutton and then click OK. expected results: should get the native (gnome) file picker where you can choose the download location. actual results: no file picker appeared. downloading began (Download manager appeared), putting the file in my default location, ~/Desktop. this isn't a problem if I context-click a link and choose "Save Link As" or hit ctrl+S --the file picker appears in those cases. I noticed that browser.download.useDownloadDir is false (expected), but I wonder if that pref is somehow of lower precedence to any of the following prefs, each of which are set to ~/Desktop? browser.download.downloadDir browser.download.dir browser.download.defaultFolder
