Running as root, when going to a website requiring Macromedia flash, but the
plugin is not installed, one is offered to install it. The user then follows
the instructions to install the flash player, everything seams to be working
fine, but when the installation process ends, the user finds that nothing has
been installed. Restarting the browser does not help.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Login as root.
2. Go to a website requiring Macromedia flash
(http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/)
3. Click on "Click here to download plugin".
4. Follow instructions install Macromedia flash plugin.
Actual Results:
Everything seams to be getting installed, but at the end of the process, nothing
has been installed.
Expected Results:
Installed Macromedia flash properly.
I tried this on several machines, at different environment (home and work, with
different hardware). This problem is not limited to a single computer. I tried
on Fedora Core 3 and Fedora Core 4 (and maybe other distros too, a long time ago).
This is probably a dupe, but I could not find another bug report simillar to
this one. I doubt I am the only user suffering from this.

This is observed with Firefox 1.0.4 on Fedora Core 4 as well.

There were problems with flash plugin on amd64 (bug 269496), but it was fixed
for 1.0.5. Other than that it should work. Why do you think it was not
installed? Do you see it in about:plugins? Do you have the flash library
installed at all?

I am getting exactly the same problem. This bug didn't exist in earlier versions of Firefox. I am seriously considering rolling back to an older version until this gets resolved.

i have this problem as well... previous version of firefox works fine but upon updationg i have this problem not just with flash but with ALL media players... as a result i am unable to view most videos on the internet and am forced to use Internet Explorer *cringes*
I have this problem as well since i updated firefox. I can't view any videos on websites and have been forced to use IE *cringes* i'm willing to rollback firefox but the fact of the matter is that i SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. Can someone who has any idea of how to fix this problem please get off your backside and fix the problem
Sincerely
