Details

It's hard to be a developer and to have the default behavior of automatically
check for updates turned on for Firefox and Thunderbird. You could be running
your debug build and end up getting a new nightly update over writing your debug
build. Woops!

Would be great if we had a #ifndef DEBUG in the JS file that triggers the
periodic check for new updates so we can avoid automatic updates of debug builds.
See bug 302721 comment 22 which I believe implies that bug 302721 will prevent
this problem.
yup, this is fixed now by virtue of the default channel configuration.
