From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.72 [en] (Win98; I)
BuildID: M14
I performed a clean install of Win98 SE on a newly formatted drive, then got the
M14 .zip distribution. I unzipped it, ran mozilla.exe, and saw the splash screen
as expected. About 10 seconds later the splash screen disappears and nothing
ever happens after that. The process stops completely and nothing I try will get
Mozilla to run. The same behavior happens on the nightly builds as well.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Reformat the HD and install Win98
2. Get M14 or the nightly build Win32 .zip distribution
3. Unzip
4. Run mozilla.exe
Actual Results: The splash screen shows for about 10 seconds, then disappears
and Mozilla never loads.
Expected Results: Mozilla should have loaded.

Does this always happen on the same machine, or have you seen this behaviour on
multiple machines?
Could you try with a FullCircle build and see if that produces anything?
Does it work if you use the Win32 installer?
Gerv
I tried that nightly build from 3/11/00 using the WIn32 installer and had no
luck. The same thing happens with both the .zip and installer distributions. I
did not see a full circle daily build -- is that only in the Milestones?
Milestone 14 fullcircle .zip file produces this error, but Fullcircle never
opens:

you need msvcrt.dll and mfc42.dll copied into c:\windows\system to work, do you
have these?

I assume you have internet access on that machine configured? Maybe that is
causing mozilla to die, no connection.
Absolutely, Internet connection is fine through 4.x and every other program I
use to access the net. The machine in question is on a home network and sharing
access through Wingate 3, but that should not make a difference.

well, try deleting all mozilla files in the /windows/system directory, profile,
etc.. and try a new install.
I have done that already. What other files besides mozregistry.dat are put into
the Windows directory? I clean out mozregistry.dat and everything that was
unzipped, then get the new builds. I do this every day for WinNT and it works
fine. When I do it on Win98 the same thing happens every day as first described
in this bug report.

Looks like 28403 or one of its duplicated. marking such. Reporteer, please try
with a currnet build. This is related to your proxy I think. 28403 is marked
fixed. If you still see the problem with a current build please comment at that
bug.
