User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050720 Fedora/1.0.6-1.1.fc4 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050720 Fedora/1.0.6-1.1.fc4 Firefox/1.0.6 Just rendering a page in either firefox-1.0.6-1.1.fc4 or mozilla-1.7.10-1.5.1 causes clicks and the like in xmms-1.2.10-16 (plain FC4 rpm as well as with mp3 support reenabled) playback (so does tabbing through windows). Using alsa (with or without mmapping), OSS or esd does not make any difference. No such problems when neither browser is started. Athlon 800, Asus A7V, SB PCI128, 256MB. FC4 full updates as of 2005-08-27, although the issue exists on a fresh FC4 install with firefox-1.0.4-something as well. Running xmms as root with a nice of -10 makes no difference so I don't suspect a lack of resources to be the problem. $ free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 255636 161228 94408 0 2208 62428 -/+ buffers/cache: 96592 159044 Swap: 987956 56508 931448 Sorry if this is a duplicate, but although some of the reports I read speak of similar issues they seem not to be as general as my problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start xmms. 2. Start firefox or mozilla. 3. Open (render) a page (or tab through windows). Actual Results: click scratch ouch Expected Results: Crystal clear playback.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050827 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2005082708 I use xmms a lot and haven't had any problems with it conflicting with Firefox. The only issue I could see here is that you're viewing a page that has sound on it and your sound mixer (alsa) can't handle both at the same time; and if this is the case, this is not a Firefox bug.
I can reproduce this problem with *every* page, *every* time, including f.e. the FC4 release notes on my local disk, this page, http://www.google.com. Note that it also happens with an open firefox or mozilla when tabbing through unrelated windows. There are other bug reports around that indicate that there might be problems with firefox and the sound system (but none as general as my problem).
I have noticed with Fedora 11 (it may even have started with 10) that XMMS starts skipping through my mp3 files. The song may start normally, but after a little time the time-tracking progress bar speeds up and the whole song can be over in 5 seconds or less. It's like some timing thing has gone awry. Very annoying. Other mp3 players do it as well, including Jukebox. I hope somebody can sort it out soon and post an update. Ciao, H.
