User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050902 Firefox/1.6a1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20050902 Firefox/1.6a1 I'm not sure what happened here, but I just tried to do a new install on a new machine and the first thing I do is set my download location to my downloads. This is something I demonstrate in my classes. People love this. Well...Um, I have to create that folder manually now? This is the thing I tell all the people in my seminars to do FIRST or else there stuff will go on their desktop like how IE works (gasp.) I would really appriciate it if you would add My Downloads back in to the preset locations. Otherwise I'm going to be telling people to install Firefox 1.0.x first, customize, then go to Firefox 1.5. Ugh... my success rate will fall (I'm batting 1000) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. New Install 2. Start 3. Tools->Options->Downloads and the nice as easy to use selector is gone. All that's left is this really hard selector that none of my users can figure out. Actual Results: You have an "impossible to use" selector. Expected Results: Select My Downloads from a drop list. Users are not as up to par on technical things as the rest of us and my feedback is that the new thing is just impossible to use. I rather agree. That's insane how the new thing works. This is a major feature that is now missing (it's one of the 5 features I focus on with Firefox in my seminars.)

Looks like this is an intentional change from the options rewrite. On the aviary branch (for 1.0.x): http://lxr.mozilla.org/aviary101branch/source/toolkit/mozapps/downloads/content/pref-downloads.xul#170 http://lxr.mozilla.org/aviary101branch/source/toolkit/locales/en-US/chrome/mozapps/downloads/pref-downloads.dtd#7 On the 1.8 branch (for 1.5), and presumably the trunk: http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla1.8/source/browser/components/preferences/downloads.xul#85 Summary: The UI has changed from a somewhat non-standard drop-down list with an Other option, to the more typical field and Choose button. Show Folder was lost at the same time. Note taht it's only two clicks to browse to My Downloads in the new layout - provided the user can guess that My Downloads is sub-directory of the unexpanded My Documents (at least on XP SP2).
Confirming as a feature request, but this is likely to be a wontfix as it seems to be asking to undo an intentional change.

"My Downloads" is now "Downloads", and will be created the first time it's needed. (the prefs pane does not create it anymore) Note some os's now support a default downloads folder, which is the default when folderList is set to 1. OSX: Safari download folder or Desktop/Downloads Vista: Downloads XP/2K: Desktop/Downloads Linux: Home/Downloads
