When upgrading from 1.0 to 1.5 extensions with an invalid ID disappear due to the fix for bug 275529. To reproduce: 1. Run Firefox 1.0 with a clean profile 2. Install CTC from http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/clav/ (its ID is "ctc") 3. Restart Firefox 1.0; ensure CTC appears in the Extensions manager and that Close Tab appears on pages' context menus when several tabs are open 4. Run Firefox 1.5 Results: CTC does not function and does not appear in the Extensions manager. The user can't upgrade to a newer, compatible version. Files installed by the extension remain in the profile folder. Expected results: From the user's point of view, their extensions to not disappear. This is the extension authors' fault for not following the specification, but I suspect users will see it as a bug in Firefox. Those bug reports can be duped to this one. If the devs know about this and are happy with it, this bug should be resolved invalid. Regretfully, there was no way we could have done this for 1.5 and we aren't going to do it for 2.0
