User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/412.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/412.5 Build Identifier: version 1.5 Beta 1 (20050908) My news server can only be connected to from within its domain, so I was trying to use it from home by setting up an ssh tunnel via "ssh -L6397:news.f.q.d.n:119 machine.f.q.d.n" And telling Thunderbird to connect to locahost port 6397 as its news server. When I try to manage my newsgroup subscriptions, Tbird says "Please wait..." and just sits there trying to load the list of newsgroups but not displaying any. The same procedure seems to work when I try to do it on a Linux machine (Linux client doesn't have the bug), and I can use other newsreaders with the same tunnel setup and server settings. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set usenet server settings to localhost port 6397 2.ssh -L6397:news.server.domain:119 <other machine in news server's domain> 3.Click on "Manage newsgroup subscriptions" Actual Results: I wait while Thunderbird tries to load the list of newsgroups... Expected Results: Gotten and showed me the list of newsgroups available on my news server, and let me acccess them.

WFM on trunk Linux, although it appears I have to force a network connection in TB twice to get it to work (e.g., open the subscribe dialog twice). ldd23@yahoo.com, does it work for you on trunk if you follow that procedure twice? If you do not respond within 3 weeks, I will resolve INCO. If it works, I will resolve WFM.

I'm still seeing this problem with Thunderbird 2.0.0.14. I am running on Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Intel) now. I'm not sure what you mean by trunk. I'm not particularly interested in trying to build from source. I never had the problem running on Linux. It is a Mac problem. I have tried closing the subscription window with both the "Cancel" button and the "OK" button and reopening it. That has not helped.

It's not necessary to build from source to run trunk builds--one can run the nightlies or even Thunderbird 3.0a1. Also requesting input from other mac developers who see this before confirming.

Alright, I just tested it with the 25 May 2008 nightly build, and I'm still seeing the issue.

ldd23 : I would love to add more info unfortunately I don't have the setup. But I see that a few things haven't been asked. Could you produce an NNTP protocol log as described at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging ? Could you also peek into ssh's log and make sure ssh is verbose so we can figure out what's going on ?
