User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051004 Firefox/1.4.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051004 Firefox/1.4.1
I've had some problems with opening an embedded WMV movie in a new browser
window, and then closing the window. It tells me something about illegal
operation yada yada, and although I can still use the open tabs, navigating
becomes impossible and I really do have to restart Firefox.
When I close all browser windows, it still leaves the Firefox process running,
and when I try to restart it, Firefox tells me it couldn't do that and I would
have to restart my system. I have to manually end the firefox.exe process before
I can use it again.
Used to have this problem more often in earlier nightlies from maybe a couple of
months ago, but haven't encountered it as much since. But occasionally I still
do, like on the mentioned website.
I'd say this is pretty critical.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have some browser windows/tabs open
2. Go to http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/steveocorolla.html (in a new window?)
3. Close window
Actual Results:
Error message, browser doesn’t crash but becomes unusable.
Expected Results:
Work as usual.
You need to open the link in a new window:
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/steveocorolla.html (SHIFT-click)
When I close it I get the following error (roughly translated from Dutch) (using
Firefox nl-NL):
+--------------------------------------------------------+
Illegal operation in plugin [x]
+--------------------------------------------------------+
Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library

The plugin has performed an illegal operation. You are
strongly recommended to restart Firefox.

[ ] Don’t show this message again during this session

[ OK ]

I can also see this problem at:
http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/690/690627/vids_1.html
Click on the "Watch It Now" link at the "Stabbed and Crushed (10/04/2005)"
video, or any other video in WMV format.
That’s where I encountered this issue before. I don’t think it got better, I
just don’t frequent IGN that often.

This WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4)
Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4. Will test latest nightly next.

This also WFM using the latest nightly: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1;
en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051005 Firefox/1.4.1 and WMP v10.00.00.3646.
If this crashes, can you provide a talkback ID?
I found out that this only happens when the Optimoz Mouse Gestures (1.0.2)
extension is installed.
I tried Firefox 1.0.7 with Mouse Gestures 1.0.2, and there is no problem.
So... what do Mouse Gestures have to do with plugins? :)
~Grauw
p.s. it doesn’t crash, it just messes up badly and then hangs.
I sent the following mail to optimoz@mozdev.org:
================================================
Heya,
I found a pretty nasty conflict that Mouse Gestures 1.0.2 has with embedded WMVs
in Firefox 1.5 Beta 2. It works fine in 1.0.7.
Basically, whenever I open an embedded WMV file in a new window, and then close
that window, Firefox gives a plugin error, starts getting confused and hangs.
I filed a bug report about it @ mozilla.org:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311273
The bug has a couple of example links where this problem can be observed.

It seems that Beta 2 has a problem with playing media on windows XP. It won't open flash, windows media player, or quicktime.

Here to. Allways now, since I installed 1.5.
It happened a few times before, but never was really irritating.

Have you upgraded to the latest version of Optimoz Mouse Gestures? That is what triggered this bug for me, and it contains a workaround now, although of course there may be other extensions running into the same bug as well. In any case, this is caused by bug 308799, so please add your vote for that, maybe it値l be solved sooner then.

I don't use Mousegesture-extensions.
Thnx. I'll add my vote there.
