User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051107 Firefox/1.5
In some instances, bold text is displayed improperly. I had this problem with all versions of Firefox (From 1.0 to 1.5RC2), and it never changed. Also formatted my system and installed OSX and no change. Basically, let's say word1 is next to word2 and word2 is bold, word2 will overlap word1 without any space between.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to google.
2. Conduct search
3. In results, bolded words will show the problem

This screenshot was sent to me by the reporter of the bug.
Based on it, I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate of bug 288047.
Robert, can you see if you have any fonts under your home directoy (~/Library/Fonts)? If so, can you verify that removing them fixes the problem for you? (see bug 288047 comment #8 and onwards).
I'm not sure which folder you mean. There's two library folders,
Mac HD > Library > Fonts (if I emptied this, would I not lose all my fonts?)
and
[My username] > Library > Fonts (this is empty now)

I meant the latter ([username]/Library/Fonts).
Since that's empty, could you check if there are fonts you have both in HD/Library/Fonts and in HD/System/Library/Fonts ?
Do you remember installing any fonts manually, copying fonts from place to place, or doing anything weird with fonts?

Could you try removing the duplicates from HD/Library/Fonts (not from System!) and see if that helps? Specifically, if Arial is duplicated, try removing it. (Keep backups of what you are removing).
There were no exact replicas and no Arial font in the system folder. However, there was a GenevaCY.dfont and a HelveticaCY.dfont in the HD folder, the only thing the seperated those from the fonts in the system folder were the 'CY' in the name.
This bug can also occur with hyperlinks. Hyperlinks overwrite the 3 - 5 characters to the left of the hyperlink. Removing fonts from "~/Library/Fonts" fixed the display problem.

Reporter, do you still see this problem with the latest Firefox 2? If not, can you please close this bug as WORKSFORME. Thanks!
