User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20051126 Firefox/1.6a1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20051126 Firefox/1.6a1 Sounds weird, but I can't install extensions anymore from a webpage. I get a new window or a dead button "Edit Options". I have no clue what I'm doing wrong, for this is tested in the latest nightly and a new profile. If I'm not sleeping and this is really happening this is critical! :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to http://www.soft32.com/download-FlashGot-124493-5.html 2.Click Install 3.Result: edit Options button dead 1.Go to http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=380 2.Click Install 3.Result: new blank window.
Sorry for the wrong user agent string; this is not a trunk problem but branch.

Why should this be blocking 1.0.8? It's not a security problem and from what you say is only a problem in 1.5. Please say what build you were testing with and see if the problem still occurs in a new profile. I have no trouble installing extensions in 1.5 RC3.
Tested in the latest branch nightly and a new profile (default settings). So xpinstall.enabled is already set to true. But yet when try to install extensions and there is a tick in the box "Warn me when web sites try to install extensions or themes" (=default) I can't install extensions. First I need to uncheck that box but do average users know that? I thought that the notification bar should be able to make that change with the "Edit Options" button but that is dead. Don't tell me these are all side effects of Bug 310737 :? But I see it also in a build of 1 Nov 05 so it must be well-known.

With user_pref("xpinstall.whitelist.required", false); the problem will be solved.
Well thats the setting controlled by the stupidly worded pref in the options. With it set to true I get a yellow bar at the top saying that firefox stopped installation and an edit options that opens the whitelist options. With it false the xpinstall dialog appears. What branch version are you using?
"Edit Options" seems to work for this site: http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/clav/#almostfullscreen I'm still getting a white window at http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=380 and no bar. http://www.soft32.com/download-FlashGot-124493-5.html still fails here as described in comment 0. Maybe I had just two bad examples.
Confirming. For the two examples the notification bar is either not shown or the options button is unusable when shown. I'm guessing this isnt going to happen for 1.5, and there are no flags to request that anyway but this should be fixed pronto.
