User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

I had two search plugins for Webster. I checked found that there was a webster.src plugin in the searchplugins directory of my profile, so I erased it. It disappeared but there is a blank line in the search menu. I can select it and search, though nothing happens.

I edited localstore.rdf to remove references to look for and remove references to webster.src but to no avail. There is still a blank line. Exiting Firefox and restarting does not help.

Reproducible: Didn't try
Search plugins which I had in 1.0.7 are gone. I cannot add them anymore, as the page http://mycroft.mozdev.org/findmycroft.html is screwed.
I am able to add addditional search engines. They are listed after the blank one.

Do you have blank lines in your list of search engines?

This is also the case for me when adding certain search plugins - e.g., Wikipedia and others. I'll add the search plugin, but it does not show up other than as a blank line. This is the case for me on both WinXP and Mac Os X 10.4.3 under Firefox 1.5. Under XP when I moved the plugins from my profile directory to the Firefox app directory the problem was fixed (though this may have been coincidental). Under OS X, the same action did not solve my problem.

I have further noticed that if one makes the mistake of selecting the blank search plugin one can not seem to get the dropdown list back to select a working plugin. I had to go into about:config and change the selected plugin and then restart Firefox to get back to a working plugin.

WFM. When I remove the searchplugins in my app directory they simply disappear, and the same with the profile searchplugins folder.
Dupe of Bug 306661 probably.
Similar problems here.
Sorry, I'm on WinXP.

I don't think it's a dup. Nothing disappeared involuntarily.

The blank line is due to my removing a search engine (manually, since there's no UI for removing one, but that's a separate issue).
Robert, you should be able to remove a plugin (albeit manually) and not get left with a blank line...

Have you removed the .png (or .gif,.jpg,.jpeg) as well?
If both these files are removed and you restart and there is still a blank line then something odd is going on...

And I agree... it's not a dupe of that bug.

Yes, I removed the graphics file and have restarted Firefox since (indeed, restarted my computer several times since).

It's still there.

Interesting...
Can you match up all the other lines in the dropdown to pairs of .src and .png (etc) or are they all fine? Is the total number of files (in both profile and install directory) equal to twice the number of lines in the searchbox?

(Apologies if you've tried all this already)

Yes.

This may be a separate issue. I have the blank line from trying to delete a plugin, not adding one.

No. Plugins did not disappear. I just have a blank line in my search engine plugin list.
Interesting. I tried adding a new search engine and it did not show up in the list.

So I deleted it and the image file, and now the blank line has gone away.

However, I had this problem before I tried adding that search engine. So I'm not sure what's caused it.
This bug report is almost certainly not relevant to the new search service.
