Java is needed by yahoo games. What's your java version ? I can go further than you, but they are kicking out MacOS-X users :( Note : I have both JRE 1.4.2 and JRE 5.0 on my MacOS-X Tiger 10.4.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051205 Firefox/1.5 WFM. Java starts; I see "Applet y.vmd.0 started" in the statusbar. Have you also tried it in Firefox's safemode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox)
Could you install with talkback and get a talkback ID for the crash? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback

1. Firefox crashes even in safe-mode. 2. praveen@linux:/opt/MozillaFirefox> java -version java version "1.4.2_08" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_08-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_08-b03, mixed mode) I could not figure out the jre version. Can you point out to me the command to find the jre-version ? 3. Talkback is installed, but could not enable it. Per mentioned in the site, i couldnt find any valid executable to turn on the Talkback settings.
Using gdb, I tried to catch any exceptions. The result is always the program exit code is 0377. No stack trace or any exception thrown. I am trying to build firefox on my suse and try to debug. Let see if that is of help in anyway.
This seems more like a problem with JRE on linux. But firefox doesnt seem to handle something very well, here. In my linux systems (SUSE 9.3 and RHEL 4), I tried to open www.tehelka.com and firefox vanishes. The error code returned when run with gdb attached to the process is 0377. However, when i try to open it from firefox on windows, it opens, though there is a missing plugin. Installed JRE 5 update 6, but still it works well on windows.
I wonder if you could try updating to the current JRE 5 version on Linux?
[root@l-pkumar firefox]# firefox --g MozPlugger: Warning: Unable to find the mozpluggerrc file. INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Exec of "java_vm" failed: 2 < System error?:: No such file or directory ** (Gecko:4339): WARNING **: Serious fd usage error 17 ** (Gecko:4339): WARNING **: Serious fd usage error 15 INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from child process System error?:: Resource temporarily unavailable
I installed the latest jre 1.5.0_01 and it works. Able to open all the mentioned sites.. But for making Firefox better, would suggest that crashes due to plugins be handled.

I am all confused. After installing the new jre and creating a link to libjavaplugin_oji.so to point to the right lib file. I was able to open the website once. I closed the CR and reopned the website, firefox crashed. I ran firefox as root and I was able to open the websites once and crashes the second time I close and reopen firefox. I opened the java script console and opned http://www.thehindu.com by evaluating this link and clicking on the warning that this link generates on the console. Upon clicking the link I get this dump in the javascript console window. Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebNavigation.loadURI]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/viewSource.js :: viewSource :: line 145" data: no]

With two versions of Firfox (1.5 beta and 1.5 released) on two different PCs with Win 98; Firefox crashes everytime going to 1- URL play.yahoo.com 2- Click on login (there may be other popup windows in between, keep continue) 3- Choose spade 4- Choose intermediate Twice on 18th January 2006 the Talkback program sent in the data. On 19th Talkback cannot find the server(?!) to report.
Sorry forgot to mention JRE 1.4.1; and Netscape 7.1 works fine under the same condition. I do have the plug-in "NoScripts" for protecting JavaScripts on Firefox which Netscape does not have. I do not know how to remove this plug-in; because sometimes it appears to be in the middle of the crashing act (just a feel, no data yet).
