Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; pl; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; pl; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

when i open extension manager, select any extension and open about dialog and then try to minamize extension (not about dialog!) manager, it's impossible to restore it again. I can only kill process

Normally its' impossible to minimalize extension manager when some dialog is open, but i have smart mouse, that can minimalize most windows using third button ;)

so, the problem is, that if some dialog is open at extension manager, it's impossible to restore it again

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open extension manager
2. open select some extension and at context menu select "about" -> manager has modal dialog, and it's impossible to minimalize it using button
3. add future to mouse (i have a4tech), eg third button can minimalize windows
4. move mouse over extension manager but out of "about" dialog (see attachment)
5. send window to program bar using third button
6. try to restore extension manager - it's impossible ;(

Actual Results:
I can kill firefox-extension process, this fix problem, but it's not pretty
Remember, that extension window can exist even firefox is closed - that mean, that closing firefox main window doesn't close extension manager

Expected Results:
- block minimalize manager (it's not good idea)
- try to block it, then any dialog is open
- restore correctly

screenshot, add to reproduce scenario (point 4)
Can you also reproduce this same bug with dialogs open from the Options dialog?

Also, what specific mouse are you using?
never mind aboout the specific mouse info... I must be blind. :)

info about whether the same issue can be reproduced with the options dialog would still be appreciated.

good way ;)

no, the problem doesn't exist with option dialog (i tried option/private/cookies/exception - hope this is orginal label) and i can't minimalize this window with third button

if you fix extension, see also about theme manager - i can minimalize it in the same way (i complete summary of this bug)
Summary: cant' close extension manager when i open about-dialog and minimalize manager → cant' close extension/theme manager when i open about-dialog and minimalize manager
I configured a couple of laptops that have mouse drivers with support for minimizing and wasn't able to reproduce this issue. The mouse driver you are using appears to not respect that the focused window is a modal dialog that doesn't have a minimize option whereas the mouse drivers I was able to test did respect this information. I believe this should be fixed by the manufacturer of the mouse driver you are using.

well, there are few question:
- if this is modal, you are sure?
- if yes, I'm not sure if windows let you minimalize window - event if driver don't respect rules

besides, yes my mouse can minimalize some windows that are probably modal, but I can also restore them corectly

I set severity as minor, so if you are sure, that code is ok - just close this bug ;)

On Windows by default the about dialog is modal and once that is shown it should not be possible to minimize the Extension Manager window. If the driver works on a non-focused as per your description then it shouldn't do so if the window has a child window that is modal. This is what I experienced with the systems / drivers I had that provided this functionality.

The thing is that the driver you are using is minimizing a window (e.g. the Extension Manager window) that has a child window (e.g. the extension's About dialog) that has been opened modal and does not have the ability to be minimized. The driver is not minimizing a window that is modal... it is minimizing a window that has a child that is modal. That is what it is doing incorrectly and the drivers I had did correctly.
Summary: cant' close extension/theme manager when i open about-dialog and minimalize manager → cant' close extension/theme manager when i open about-dialog and minimize manager

Resolving wontfix. The mouse driver should respect that the dialog is modal and not allow minimizing the parent of the modal dialog. This is also wfm in that I am unable to minimize the parent window of the modal dialog using a synaptics touchpad configured to do the same thing.

as i know, OS should not allow to minimalize modal window - no matter what driver you use
besides i can not find more scenario like this, so... leave as wontfix
