User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 We use Firefox for all of our City (Largo) users. As projects are worked, we have a need to retain web pages that contain intranet and internet information and store them for later research. We would like to keep such content in PDF format. Currently you can save the current page to postscript and then use ps2pdf to convert that page to PDF. The problem with that is that once it moved into PS format all of the text is lost and the result PDF doesn't contain the text strings found in the original page. This causes problems: 1) Search engines like Beagle won't discover this content, because it's a 'picture' and not 'text'. 2) You cannot use the 'Find' command in Adobe Acrobat to search these PDFs for strings. 3) You cannot copy and paste back out of these PDFs into other software applications. What we are requesting is a way to export the current page into a PDF document directly from Firefox in a manner similar to OpenOffice.org where it's a 'text' type document. What we propose is adding another checkbox in the print dialog that says []Print to PostScript File []Print To PDF File. Thanks. Reproducible: Always
This has been requested before in bug 162659 and is not likely to happen, see bug 162659 comment 8. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 162659 ***
