Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
While firefox is running, I often spawn a new window by clicking the Firefox shortcut in the win32 quickbar... at random (almost once a day), firefox immediately crashes and generates a talkback report.
Refer to TB13041090Q for specifics.
I found several ntdll.dll bugs, but none with this specific cause listed.
fyi: I also get ntdll.dll crashes while using the browser, again completly random - but no such common event as this.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
Have not determined a pattern
Past talkback ID's from my computer in the last 2 days (may not all be the spawn-window-from-icon issue)

A couple of things... maybe the page you have your homepage set to is causing the crash? Try setting it to about:blank and see if you can reproduce. Also, can you reproduce this in trunk builds, and can you reproduce it in safe mode? Safe mode: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Trunk builds: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/

Summary: random crash running firefox.exe while instance already present - crash in ntdll.dll → random crash running firefox.exe while instance already present [@ ntdll.dll + 0x11f6c]
No crashes in 1.6a1 in 3 days with all my old extentions still enabled.
Will leave this open for a few more days and then close, unless someone wants to figure what was fixed and backport the patch to 1.5 (I don't know what the 1.6 release schedule is)

I confirm the bug, I had multiple random crashes, while I was navigating on different sites.
The error in event log is
Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20051.11116, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00011f6c.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I have had no crashes relating to this bug since moving to 1.6a
I haven't used 1.5 since, so I don't know if a fix has been issue there - your call whether to close.

JConley, you never responded about your home page or safe mode. This would help give a more complete picture of the issue.

ntdll.dll is a big space.
Does your problem occur as described by JConley:
a) when opening a new window?
b) goes away with a trunk build?
Does it happen using safe mode?
FWIW no other bug reports, open or close, match the symptoms of comment 0 and the talkback.
(In reply to comment #5)
I have not seen this issue in 1.5 in months... it was probably resolved in 1501 or some other factor.
I would say close the issue.
