After loading a page that has animated GIFs, the STOP button (and menu entry
is disabled), so I cannot stop the animated GIFs. (pressing Esc doesn't do it
either)

(it happens both on Linux and Solaris, but there is no way to specify 2
platforms in the bug report)

This was possible with all the versions of Netscape that I used. And I consider
it an important feature.
Animated GIFs are distracting, and the hog bandwidth when using a slow modem
connection, providing a way to disable them is something that lots of users want.
Agreed. This has been requested many times, and it's slated for implementation.

However, I can't find the correct bug after 5 minutes, and am thus marking it as
duplicate of the closest bug I can find, 21620.
