Messages to mozilla.dev.mdc (dev-mdc@) seem to be inconsistently between the mailing lists and newsgroups. This morning I noticed two messages on the newsgroup (via google groups, rss, and my Tbird news subscription) that I didn't get via mail (via IMAP to mail.app and to my gmail account).
The messages in question here are titled "Firefox Quits" to the mozilla.dev.mdc newsgroup. The first was sent on Feb 6th at 9:25pm, and the response was sent Feb 7 at 5:47am.
I did a followup test on mozilla.test this morning, sending a message from mail and a message via news. I got the mail message everywhere as expected, but the message from news didn't seem to make it to the mailing list.
Could someone please verify that the mail-news gateways are working properly? Thanks! :)

They are not, it's already on my plate. There's several mailing lists having gatewaying problems at the moment. I guess this is the first bug filed on it, but my mailbox is full of the complaints. :)

you can add mozilla.dev.apps.firefox <> dev-apps-firefox@lists.mozilla.org to the list of those not being gated properly. Sadly, I can't give you any sort of repeatable test cases, but here are the symptoms:
- message mailed to dev-apps-firefox@lists.mozilla.org at 4pm PST yesterday
did not make it through to the list nor to the newsgroup (listserv down?)
- messages posted in newsgroup via NNTP aren't being echoed to the mailing
list (this seems to have regressed sometime after Feb 2, since a post
via NNTP made on that date did get echoed across properly)

Oh, should mention that the first date that the NNTP -> mailing list thing seems to have failed was Feb 5. Sorry for bugspam.

OK, deleting the mozilla.web-developers.* groups is what killed it.
gate_news was dying when it hit a list gated to a newsgroup that didn't exist. Of course, it wasn't logging the fact that it died or that it had hit an error.
Deleting the mailing lists corresponding to the newsgroups that got deleted suddenly cleared it up.
There are literally thousands of posts going both to the mailing lists and to the newsgroups that were stuck in queue on the list server right now.

support-firefox and support-thunderbird each got about 1400 messages gatewayed off usenet in the time period that it was down that all went out to the list subscribers in the last 10 or 15 minutes.
I've sent personal mail to each of the 8 subscribers of those two lists apologizing for the mailbomb.
