Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; HP-UX 9000/800; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060212 Firefox/1.5

Firefox is installed on multi-user HPUX system in a location which is not writable by users. When I run firefox compreg.dat is created under $HOME/.mozilla/$profile.

Sample contents:.
rel:libjar50.sl,1139175595000
rel:libxpinstall.sl,1139177105000
rel:nsCloseAllWindows.js,1138731295000
rel:libmyspell.sl,1139177546000

Now when I login to some other systems like Solaris or a HP-UX itanium system & run firefox with the same user , firefox tries to use the profile created during the first run. But firefox fails silently without any error message. Then I found that the compreg.dat file created for HP-UX PA_RISC is not valid for Solaris or HP-UX itanium. When I removed that file everything works fine.

This should not be the right behavior of firefox. The profile created on any machine should work anywhere.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run firefox on a HP-UX PA_RISC system. compreg.dat is created under $HOME/.mozilla/$profile.
2. Then login to some other system like SOlaris or HP-UX itanium with same user & run firefox
3.
Actual Results:
For the second run on a different system , firefox fails silently.

Expected Results:
firefox should come up properly with the same profile

The same profile should be valid in all operating system. I would like to know the way to disable compreg.dat or recreate that everytime I use a profile.
