User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060214 Camino/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060214 Camino/1.0 Having created a folder in Bookmark Menu or Bookmark Bar, it can not be deleted, either with the pop-up context menu (right-mouse having selected the folder) or in the Show All Bookmarks page. It makes no difference if the bookmark folder has contents or is empty. Once a folder is created, it can never be deleted. It can moved around and renamed, but it can not be deleted. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a folder in Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Bar. 2. Right-Mouse on the folder, and select Delete. 3. Note the folder is NOT deleted. 4. Alternatively, after creating folder, Select Bookmarks->Show All Bookmarks and 5. Select the folder to be deleted and with Edit->Delete or right-mouse->Delete try to delete the folder. 6. Note that the folder insists on persisting..... Actual Results: The folder stays around no matter how many times I select Delete and no matter which menu from which I select delete. Expected Results: When I delete a folder I expect it to politely cease to exist in my universe. It would be nice if a delete menu actually invoked a delete operation on the selected folder
This WFM. Try exporting your bookmarks (File: Export Bookmarks) and then quit Camino and move aside the bookmarks.plist file in your profile. Then relaunch Camino and import the bookmarks file you exported. See if you can delete the folder then.
Please have a look in your system logs file (there's a program for this in your Applications/Utilites folder; I only know the name in Swedish) to see if any errors occur when you try to delete.

I was able to delete the folder from the bookmarks menu and bookmarks bar following this suggestion.
Steve, do you still have the old Bookmarks.plist where you couldn't delete the folder, and, if so, would you be willing to attach it to this bug so we can see if we can figure out why the folder couldn't be deleted?
It's the "To Be Announced" folder in the Bookmark Menu, right? I can't delete that, so confirming. Simon, do you see anything that might cause this?
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
To Be Announced is the dock folder (FolderType 16), so that's bug 244116. The original description sounds like it was all folders though.
I could easily see a user fumble resulting in a choise of "Use as Dock menu", followed by frustrated attempts to delete. Maybe we should remove Use as Dock Menu from the context menu?
(In reply to comment #8) > I could easily see a user fumble resulting in a choise of "Use as Dock menu", > followed by frustrated attempts to delete. Maybe we should remove Use as Dock > Menu from the context menu? Indeed, personally I don't find this feature very useful. (However, when it comes to removing stuff there will always be people who disagree because they do use it...)
(In reply to comment #8) > I could easily see a user fumble resulting in a choise of "Use as Dock menu", > followed by frustrated attempts to delete. Maybe we should remove Use as Dock > Menu from the context menu? Fixing bug 244116, which is the only negative side-effect of accidently changing the dock folder, seems like a better way to go. Steve, am I understanding correctly that you were unable to delete *any* bookmark folders, not just the To Be Announced folder?

I don't recall if I tried to delete other folders or not. Probably not. I believe that I had the "To Be Announced" folder as a Bookmark Bar folder and when I could not delete it I moved it to Bookmark Menu and when I could not delete it there either, I ended up burying it inside of the Camino Info Bookmar Bar folder. I tried to add contents to the folder and delete it. I could delete URL contents of the folder but not the folder. I removed all the contents and still the folder would not delete. I had originally not named the folder. I renamed it "To Be Announced" just because I could not delete it. At one point, I think I duplicated a URL to go to Camino's home URL, just to have somethiing in the folder.
Okay, closing this a dup of 244116 then. Hopefully we can get the patch over there reviewed soon, as it's been sitting for a while. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 244116 ***
