Since history sidebar is replaced by Places, I can't keep history and requested websites in view at the same time. In order to click a history link, I first need to click the Places button, and then I need to do another click to go back to the website. This repeats itself for every history link and costs me to much time. Especially because I use history so often. The Back-button is a poor way to replace Go-menu and history sidebar. The history displayed under the Back arrow disappears after every browser session and is different for every tab.
Under the History-menu I see no real history, only the same session history that is already under the Back-button arrow and that will disappear after closing the browser. A partial way out would be if it displayed the normal history.
Hey, take a look at the discussion mozilla.dev.apps.firefox on news.mozilla.org (or you can get a read-only version on Google Groups). Quicker access for people who prefer a sidebar is one of the design goals. The current places-page-in-a-tab will likely go away. There was some more discussion in person on Tuesday. I'll get somebody to post it to the newsgroup.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
