Particularly regarding cairo's inability to draw dotted invert, we should try to match our dotted colours to system colours. My experimentation suggests that the usual dotted colour matches the ThreeDDarkShadow on normal controls, with some exceptions such as menulists and current selected list/tree items, whose dotted colour is the HighlightText colour, and tree threads, which are ThreeDShadow.

This relates to the dotted lines that occur occasionally in themes (see URL); not all of them use system colours when they probably should.

Can you please explain what the problem is? No user can understand "cairo's inability to draw dotted invert"
