User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.7.11) Gecko/20050728 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.7.11) Gecko/20050728 I have Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Windows 98 SE. When I call Google in the location bar by 'www.google.de', the preferences setup works without problems. When I call Google in the search bar, it is always set back to showing exclusively German pages, whatever language I have chosen before in the preferences menue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Call www.google.de 2. Click 'preferences', mark 'Italian', save. 3. type 'albergo Napoli' in the Firefox find bar (not in the Google field) Actual Results: Google reports German pages. Expected Results: Google reports Italian pages.
On this page I see plugins for German Google, and those should work: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/quick/google.html
Thanks for the help. Does that mean I have to install a plugin for each language I use? (Sorry for this question; I am a linguist and do searches in more than a few languages.) Then using Google's own search bar would seem more comfortable than Firefox's search bars.
The third one under 15. General (Google (Will IP redirect))on the Mycroft page gives results in all languages. At least here.

Oops, not Search, l10n, whether it's a bug or intentional behavior. The Google search plugin that ships with the de localization forces German-only, by adding meta=lr%3Dlang_de to the search URL, and if that's in the URL Google ignores your language preference stored in your cookie.

Actually it was intentional, german users are most likely to want german search results. But in the meantime Google changed their site behaviour so that for example for german IPs it will allways add: <input type="hidden" value="de" name="hl"/>. That means, users from Germany will always see results with German priority, therefore there is no more need to force it through the searchbox attributes. I'll change that as soon as possible.
