Details

Here's what happens:
1) Install a fresh copy of windows 98
2) Install mozilla with installer daily build id 2000032409
3) Launch mozilla
A tiny titlebar only window appears on top left corner of the screen and the
task bar begins to get full of mozilla window buttons
After a while the program crashes with an error in msvcrt.dll
Installing a newer version (6.00.8397.0) of the msvcrt.dll fixes the problem.
bug 19165 was tracking the MSVCRT.DLL problem and was supposed to be fixed.
I've commented over there about this bug.
Sounds like it could variation of the original problem.
I am on Win95 with MSVCRT.DLL version 6.00.8168.0 and do NOT see this problem.
This is an older version then the reporters. I am curious as to what the
original reporter's version of MSVCRT.DLL was/IS.

The original bug 19165 would not let moz start at all. Could the originla
MSVCRT.DLL just be corrupted? Could the orignal be posted as an attachment?
I think this is bug #27601 -- mozilla builds need to install mscvirt.dll if it
doesn't exist, otherwise you get the behaviour described above.

One point of divergence here is that alfo@email.com noted that (s)he fixed this
by installing a newer version of _msvcrt.dll_ (not msvcirt.dll). However, I'm
curious as to how this msvcrt.dll upgrade was done -- alfo@email.com : did
a copy of msvcirt.dll come as part of this upgrade (or was it somehow otherwise
added to your system (e.g., by installing some other piece of software))?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
You're right, I tried switching msvcrt.dll with the older version but mozilla
still works. Then I tried to duplicate the problem again by reinstalling win98
from scratch and the problem is still there, but if I copy msvcirt.dll in the
windows\system dir it works just fine.
Resolving as dupe based on reporter's comments.
