User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
The icelandic characters Þ, Ý and Ð are displayed as fi, † and ‹ when Icelandic is the top language on the language list under Mac OS X's International Preferences. This does not happen if English is draged to the top of the list and the user is loged in and out.
This encoding issue is very common when the MacIcelandic text encoding is mistaken for Mac OS Roman.
This has been an issue for a long time within the browsers that use the Gecko engine under Mac OS X and makes many Mac OS X user prefer Safari or Opera.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open System Preferences
2. Open International
3. If Icelandic is not displayed under "Languages:", click "Edit list...". If Icelandic is on the list, skip to step 5
4. Select "Íslenska" and click "OK".
5. If Icelandic is not on the top of the list, drag it to the top
6. Log out
7. Log in again
8. Open a document with firefox contaning the characters Þ, Ý and Þ
Expected Results:
Firefox should have displayed the characters just like it did before changing the top language to Icelandic.

I'm not sure if this belongs in internationalization or GFX:Mac. The problem seems to be that we are encoding the text in MacIcelandic but using a MacRoman font.

I can reproduce this with the official build, but my one with MLTE patch looks ok.

I tested the steps on Mac OS X 10.8 using Icelandic Firefox 17.0.1 but could not reproduce the problem, the characters displayed just fine, so this seems to have been fixed some time ago.
