Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060414 Firefox/3.0a1 Just upgraded from yesterday's linux trunk nightly to today's, and my bookmarks toolbar is empty. I tried Customize -> Restore Default Set like worked last time this happened, but it didn't fix it. The JS console prints a few errors: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 2146" data: no] Blocklist::_loadBlocklistFromFile: XML File does not exist Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/toolbar.xml :: _init :: line 82" data: no]
Safe Mode does not fix it, and in fact prints out 4 errors: Failed to load XPCOM component: /home/dolphinling/firefoxnightly/firefox/components/libmozgnome.so Failed to load XPCOM component: /home/dolphinling/firefoxnightly/firefox/components/libnkgnomevfs.so Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 2146" data: no] Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/toolbar.xml :: _init :: line 82" data: no]
Bug 332495 and bug 330063 both modified controller.js and toolbar.xml in the timeframe.

Empty Bookmarks Toolbar also in Windows Branch 20060414
also...possibly related or similar to ?? (Bug 333985 Places -> Subscriptions is empty)
Deleting "latest headlines" causes the following error: Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsINavHistoryService.executeQuery]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js :: PC_getFolderContents :: line 280" data: no] Source: chrome://browser/content/places/controller.js Line: 280 and after a browser restart the above mentioned errors occur with an empty bookmarks toolbar. p.s. Firefox 2.0a1 (20060416) (WinXP) OS should be changed from Linux to All

It happens if you do not have any livemarks at all. But then you even can not add a new one because livemarks = Cc["@mozilla.org/browser/livemark-service;1"].getService(Ci.nsILivemarkService); fails.

Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060510 Minefield/3.0a1 ID:2006051013 [cairo] and noticed that my bookmarks toolbar has gone blank (with the exception of an icon that says 'Show Bookmarks & History' that just pops up a search box) I think starting with the 20060509 build. If I open up the Places window, all my bookmarks are there in the regular bookmarks folder and in the bookmarks toolbar folder. It's just that nothing shows up in the toolbar.
no solution ? Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060609 Minefield/3.0a1 same bug
I fixed this for myself by exporting my bookmarks, deleting bookmarks_history.sqlite, and letting firefox reimport them. I haven't had the problem since, and I have no idea what caused it in the first place.
There should at least be some config setting that provides a way of controlling the servicing of livemarks. I abandoned them altogether because they were bringing my system to its knees.

So is this still a problem? I never found out what caused it, and I haven't seen anything like it since. I'd probably resolve it worksforme. And given that we're not even using places anymore...
Without the corrupted database to see what went wrong with it, basically a dupe of bug 327894, to have a backup.
Well, no, a dependency, not a dupe. But yeah, it hasn't seemed to cause problems recently, and I don't see any way to figure out what it *was*, so, -> WFM

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
