User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
I have witnessed this problem on Firefox running on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.6. The problem is that once in a while if I move the Firefox window around the screen too fast or to move it out of the way to see Desktop or Download Manager, the window will snap to the upper left corner of the Download Manager Interface or another Firefox window in the same spot. This can get really frustrating and annoying when you try to separate the window from the Download Manager and it will keep snapping back. I have figured out through time that if you slowly move the window after it snapped to the upper left corner of the Download Manager or other Firefox window, you can separate them. I do not know if I am the only Mac user coming across this bug, for it is really annoying. I have had this problem before I updated Firefox to the latest release for the Macintosh line. It would be really appreciative if you can fix this for future releases.
Thank you for your help.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Move your Firefox window around the screen really fast when Download Manager is open and running. Or sometimes just moving it a normal pace out of the way to see another Firefox window can trigger the same problem.
2. Sometimes when you do this it will snap to the upper left corner of the download manager. If other Firefox windows are open they will all snap to the same spot.
3. Sometimes moving the Download Manager to the bottom corners of your screen will trigger it to snap to the upper left corner of your main Firefox window you are viewing.
At home I run the latest release of Firefox (defautl theme) on a G4 733Mhz which runs system X 10.3.9.
At work I run the same release of Firefox (default them) but it has some extensions installed on it and it is on a G5 ??Mhz (cannot remember the specific model since I am not there right now) which runs system X 10.4.6.

I have been able to reproduce this bug in the "DeerPark" browser (a version of FireFox specifically compiled for the G5 processor).
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060503 Firefox/1.5.0.3
It occurs when the downloads window is open. I think it may have something to do with moving one window over another.
I'm running several extensions and, upon checking them, the "Extensions" window just snapped to the upper-left position of the Downloads window when I moved it.

I can confirm bug on <Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3> 10.4.6. The only difference is that it only happens when the Download Manager window is in my second monitor. So, the workaround for me was to move the Download Manager to my main screen.

I can confirm this bug on Firefox 1.5.0.4, MacOSX Intel on an iMac. I only have one screen. This is annoying!
Confirmed with "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1" running on iMac G5, Mac OS X 10.4.8. I have noticed that it is not necessary to have the Download Manager window open. It is hard to identify the exact requirements for this bug to occur, but it seems that any window that has some particular activity will do. Just now I am able to repeatedly and consistently produce this bug by refreshing a Bugzilla bug search window and moving another window in small moves while the other is refreshing. It does not take long for the window that I move to snap to the window that is refreshing. This is indeed extremely annoying, as it sometimes takes a lot of move attempts to get the window where I want to put it. I see the problem on a daily basis.

Confirmed here too, on an Intel Mac, currently on Firefox 2.0.0.6, but the problem has been around for a long time. It happened just now with the download manager, but happens when other windows update in some way too, although I haven't tried tracking down what causes it -- mostly because the reason why this happens seems very obscure.

Ditto. MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, OS 10.4.10, Firefox 2.0.0.6.
Browser windows snap to Downloads and vice-versa.
Closing one offending window or minimizing one and moving the other significantly will alleviate the problem for a short while, but this must be repeated every time the snapping resurfaces.

just thought i'd add to the chorus. certainly not
a critical problem, but annoying enough to drive
users away. i've seen its persistence through
releases cited as an argument against open source :)
i have nothing to add except that the bug is permanent
in my case. that is, it persists no matter what i
do: infinitely reproducible, and seen in no other
application, so the theory that this is OS-related
seems unsupportable. it's evident by now that firefox
users need to simply accept this as a feature. maybe
i'll work up a bit of documentation praising it as a
security measure and propose that it be ballyhooed
in 1.5.3. next thing we know, m$ will ape it!
how can an annoying bug that everyone experiences
and is widely reported (try google if you doubt
it) persist for a year?

My partner experiences this one too, finds it really annoying. She's running 2.0.0.14 at present, but it's been doing this for a couple of years.
I've seen this happen severel times since early OS X. Not sure, but I believe also with other browsers.
The worst thing that can happen is when the addressbar (and the rest of the window-top jumps out of the top of my screen, making the window quite un-handy...
In Firefox I found that Cmd-L (Apple-L) for "Location" makes the window-top jump back on the screen and I can continue.
Not a solution, but might be helpful if you're fu****

This is the most annoying aspect of using Firefox on the Mac... Every time a new release comes out, I hope and pray this bug will be fixed but alas, it's still there.
I've found that when one window is loading, moving any other window causes it to snap to the upper left corner of the loading one. That seems to be the most reproducible case. When no window is loading, everything works fine. Same situation for the Download Manager; when it's open and items are downloading, other non-loading windows snap to it.
