repro:
1.Open a mail with multiple messages that have been read before

the mailtabs look like

works in 20060417 1554pdt build
fails in 20060417 2226pdt build (both non-cairo because GAIUS was broken)

This could quite easily be related to bug 334690/bug 334945/bug 335030. So if you don't mind I rather wait until those bugs are fixed. If this bug still occurs after that, then I'll try making a testcase.
