User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr-FR; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr-FR; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 Having two shortcuts for the same action is a bad thing as it use one accel. key for nothing. ctrl+l is used in many other application to change the location (nautilus comes to mind) and this shortcut is shown in the file menu. I was discussing this issue with the french translation team as it was conflicting with another menu accelerator. IMHO alt+... should be used to access menus and ctrl+... for actions. Selecting the location bar is an action and therefor we should only use ctrl+l_ocation for it. Reproducible: Always
Alt+D is for people used to IE (where there's an A_d_dress label in front of the address bar). And it's also way easier to type on (notebook) keyboards having only one Ctrl key (on the right). Most probably WONTFIX.
If we can tell people to click on "bookmarks" instead of "favourites", why do we have to keep this duplicate shortcut and alienate other plateform's users ? As for the other reason, I don't know ;-) If we could reuse alt+d for É_dition (edit) menu, we would be able to use the same shortcut for the edit menu for all french translations (I understand this is not very important for english users but the fact that two shortcuts exist for the same action is still bad design imho).
In IE, alt+d goes to the address bar, while ctrl+l and ctrl+o both open the location dialog (which can be used to access a local file). From my point of view as a long time IE user, it's the ctrl+l which should really be eliminated in both IE and FF.

Also Alt-D is much more confortable to use, with only one hand instead of two for Ctrl-l * on laptops I mean (where there is no Ctrl key at the right)

Opposed to Ctrl+L, Alt+D may actually be different between locales (e.g. both IE6 and Firefox use Alt+S instead in their German locale since D is the default accelerator for the "Datei"/file menu). -> INVALID
