I would like an option for mail messages to be displayed the way Netscape 4.x
used to, with the header information as a part of the message instead of
residing in a block of "header-fields" above the message.

The reasons for this are two-fold.

1. If you do a "Show All Headers", the "header-field" block expands to take up
so much of the message space as to make the message itself unreadable.

2. In Netscape 4.x, to report an instance of net abuse, all you had to do was:
   A. Show All Headers
   B. Select All
   C. Copy
   D. New Message
   E. Paste
   F. To: (appropriate [e-mail])

This was marked as a dupe because motivation #1 for this option is the same as that for bug 9942; however, making the headers part of the message is distinict from allowing them to scroll with it. Reopening. However, I am not sure whether motivation #2 was indeed possible with Netscape 4.x . Reporter, please elaborate.

This is what I thought bug 9942 was about, the reason it was/is marked 4xp.  We currently have two places reserved for the current headers, the header selection pane, and the chrome section of the message pane reserved exclusively for message headers, which is stupidly wasteful. One place is plenty, the header selection pane, which, like N4, leaves a larger effective message body pane for any but the shortest of messages. The message content itself is the most important part of the whole window. Everything to facilitate keeping that space as large as possible should be done. It's plenty easy enough to scroll headers back to top any time they're needed.

I. To see all headers, body, and scroll the whole thing, just "view source" (or Ctrl-U). It won't render HTML and won't decode base64; this can be seen as an advantage or a disadvantage.

II. To report net abuse, all you need to do is:
1. View Source (or Ctrl-U).
2. Select All (for headers+text), or else select whatever the agency to which you're reporting the mail wants you to send.
3. Copy
4. The rest same as in comment #0.

Or else, forward as attachment.

I believe this solves the reporter desires - resolving WORKSFORME.

If you REOPEN, please explain very clearly why the "view source" function isn't enough.
