startup crash using firefox nightly

the crash occurs when firefox does its little restart dance when the application is launched.  the problem goes away if i set NO_EM_RESTART.
This is symptomatically similar to bug 337481, but I filed this one separately because that bug pertains to the cocoa widget system, which is not in use with stock Firefox nightly builds.

Priority: -- → P1
We disproved the notion that bug 337481 was Cocoa widget-specific.  The patch in bug 331117 takes care of the startup crash for me.
