any site, try to type in a fill-in box, instant the letter is typed, Find: opens at the page bottom and the letter(s) is there. I cannot fill a fill box, cannot use google, etc. If I paste into googles search box, all is well and site works.
Reproducible: Always
Actual Results:
always happens.
Expected Results:
I expect to have letters I type fill in the dialog box. NOT become a 'search phrase' in the Find: on this page box that opens at the bottom of the page I have open. IE find works (ctrl-F) good. I'm using firefox 1.5.0.3
I can paste values in the fill-in box and all works well. I have not found this problem in the knowledge base.

This happens to me all the time, especially when there is more than one Firefox browser window open. Very very annoying.

Reggie are you using multiple windows as well?

My Firfox updated itself to 1.5.0.7 - I will update my other machine and post when I've used them. The version before, 1.5.0.6 and earlier has the problem, very often but not 100%. Restarting Firefox several times, then, maybe, did not experience the problem. Work-a-round was/is to past into the fill-in box.

Oops... All my machines are dual monitors... Makes no difference which monitor I have Firefox opened on. I have a couple of applications that do not like or do not work on the second monitor... Moving to the primary monitor, they work. Firefox has the problem in either monitor. I have seen this Firefox problem on single monitor sytems, so I did not try disabling my second monitor on any of my systems.

I don't *think* the monitor set up has to do with it so much. What I was asking is if you're using more than one firefox window, or if you use tabs.

I use tabs, windows, windows with and without tabs or combinations open... I have found this 'search word' problem happen on first opening a window... does not matter if other windows are already open or not... just the first time - sometimes closing and opening again fixes the problem, other times, open, close many times - I 'fix' the problem by using IE instead. Later, a few minutes, all is fine, than again maybe not. Shutting down the computer and waking up... well... no pattern to when or not the jump to 'search' happens. I usually see this with Goggle since that is my 'home page' but happens with login dialog boxes etc., weird... As I mentioned, I updated to Firefox 5.5.0.7 this morning - so need to wait and see, for now.

so just to be 100% clear, you can see this directly after turning your computer on and running firefox for the *first* time on the homepage, without having openened any other tabs, and without any other windows users logged in?
1.5.0.7 shouldn't fix this for you, but it would be helpful for you to try installing a bon echo nightly (very stable, they're getting into release candidates now) and giving that a whirl.

Mostly correct... just not your part 'see this directly after turning your computer on and running firefox for the *first* time on the homepage, without having openened any other tabs, and without any other windows users logged in?'
The computer is 'never' turned off. No other users... Happens when a Firefox window is opened. When or what time or if other applications are open does not seem to matter. Only if Firefox is the first Firefox window opened, anytime - just not every time. Same observation on the work computer, also dual monitors. Both XP Pro's with latest updates.

have you checked in task manager to be sure the firefox.exe task isn't still running before opening firefox?
