User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060419 Fedora/1.5.0.2-1.2.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.2 pango-text
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060419 Fedora/1.5.0.2-1.2.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.2 pango-text
On occasion, when I click a link in firefox, it will open the link in a new window on sites that normally do not attempt to open a new window (this seems to occur randomly, if I go to the same site again, it usually will not open a new window). This new window lacks any decorations at the top or bottom other than what the window manager provides. The original firefox window does not redraw at this point. Closing the new window causes firefox to close (the original window and the new window), whereas closing the tab I was in when the new window opened closes the new window and the original firefox window functions properly again.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click a link that does not normally open in a new window.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Once in a great while, the new link will open in a new, undecorated window.
Expected Results:
Link should be followed without opening a new window.
See screenshot at http://syn.cs.pdx.edu/~jsnow/firefoxbug.png for an example.
I have been seeing this bug for quite some time (at least a year, I think).

I get this bug all the time. Typically, a page that automatically reloads (e.g. Yahoo scores) will trigger this behavior. It consitently happens on a long-lived session. I can fix the behavior by doing a refresh on the main window, but eventually the browser will crash.
For me, this nearly makes Firefox unusable.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060606 Firefox/1.5.0.4
Exact same behaviour here with 1.5.0.4 under Gentoo (help states the version as "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060620 Firefox/1.5.0.4"). This only started happening with the recent update to 1.5.0.4. Definitely frustrating.
This appears to be affecting numerous others as well. Here is a link that offers more comments related to Ubuntu users experiencing the same issue:

I believe this occurs for me when Firefox starts using over 200 MB of memory.

I think we have this on Red Hat as well; closing our bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=237714 as CLOSE/UPSTREAM to this one. For more information take a look there.
