User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 After upgrading to 1.5.0.4, Firefox now constantly uses between 15% and 30% CPU time while in the background and not doing absolutely anything. I have not installed any extra extensions since then, but here's the extensions I have installed, to help debug the issue: Configuration Mania 1.06.2006013101 Locale Switcher 1.5.1 Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.8.9 Galculator 4.1 StumbleUpon 2.77 FLST 0.8.5 undoclosetab 20051204 Fasterfox 1.0.3 SessionSaver .2 d1 * nightly 31 Long Titles 1.2.1 Reproducible: Always
Does this still occur if you run Firefox in Safe Mode (accessible from the Start Menu group)? If not, the problem is caused by one of the extensions, and it would be best if you could narrow down the culprit by disabling them one by one in the extension manager.
I've uninstalled Locale Switcher 1.5.1 and all the language packs (they were all disabled, supposedly incompatible with Firefox 1.5.0.4). I haven't seen the problem reappear since.
