340506 - Search doesn't work at all; Adding Search Engines doesn't work either; bookmarks missing

Entering word to search for in search box.  Doesn't work.  Right click "add engines" there are no engines there.  Attempted to add engines, restarted Firefox, the engines added are not there.  Restarted Firefox in safe mode, the search box works and the added engines are there.  Uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox and it didn't help.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Type a word in the search engine box
2.Hit return
3.Get nothing
4. Right click on magnifier.
5. No search engines listed
6. Add engines dialog comes up
7. Go to Firefox website to add search engines
8. Add a search engine
9. Restart Firefox

Expected Results:  
No change

yes my bookmarks were also gone, i just had to re-find my bookmark file to make things work.

yes, by the way when i started firefox up in safe mode, the search engine box did work.

A corrupt localstore.rdf is also reported to cause bookmark issues.  The article at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Search_engines_disappear_from_Search_Bar has been  updated to reflect this.

Firefox Safe Mode replaces the localstore.rdf with a copy that uses the default toolbar settings and controls (localstore-safe.rdf - see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode which links to bug 303279) so that could explain it.

The page is updated to say "and possibly others."  Probably based on the bugs that are still duped to the corrupt localstore.rdf bug that is marked fixed.
