On my Win98 machine, I have a suspend mode they call standby. It can be
initiated from buttons on the keyboard, tower, or the start menu. If Seamonkey
is running when I attempt to initiate standby then the dialog asking me to wait
for the machine to suspend never goes away and the machine doesn't actually
suspend itself. If I then exit Seamonkey, the dialog goes away and the machine
suspends itself.
Somehow, Seamonkey is preventing the suspend mode from taking effect.

well, on win98, adsl connection (ie need dialup), i get the warning that standby
mode will disconnect me from the internet (all dial-up networking connections
must be closed).
If I press ok, it goes into standby with Mozilla running.
selmer - what connections are you on? LAN? ANd does netscape 4.7x let you
standby? thanks

I was not dialed up. I might have been using the cable modem, not sure. The
machine would have been in the cable modem configuration though. This would
look like a LAN configuration. Not sure why that would matter. I can try this
again to get more info for you, it may take me a while to do that.

Win98/build 2001021508. Moz. still preventing the standby. It also prevents
to turn off the HDD.
To reproduce: Allow power management, preferably notebook. Start Moz. (even w/o
connection, just blank window is enough), and wait for the timed suspend -
nothing happens.
Exit Moz., after appropriate time of no action suspend occurs.

this is a win98 bug, it worked for me before, but I know don't have win98 to
check it on.

I also observe a similar bug under Linux using 2001080104. If I try to enter
suspend mode, and mozilla is running, the machine doesn't go into suspend
mode for 2 or 3 minutes. It's as though something is waiting to timeout.

I also see a problem with Standby with Win 98 SE, Mozilla (2001073003).
I only recently realised that moz was involved with the problems I was having in
getting power management to work reliably - so I searched Bugzilla and found
this bug. I use -turbo mode so moz is actually running most of the time.
However the machine DOES sometimes go into (timed) standby mode. I have
experimented and I think Standby only works if Moz is in off-line mode. I
wondered if it was to do with POP3 accounts and checking for mail in the
background? I use dial-up so I disconnect when I leave the machine idle and wish
the system to go to standby, but maybe Moz is still trying to check my mail and
timing out doing so? I haven't managed to prove a connection with POP yet, though.
I can always manually request Standby mode (i.e. Start..Shutdown.. Standby) -
this works fine. Its just the "idle time" standby that has the problem.

This is likely related to aspects of bug 14807 (watching for Windows
notifications of certain system events). I'm making it dependent on that and
targetting for the same milestone.

I was pretty certain that I wasn't seeing this, but I tried last night to make
sure and my machine this morning was in standby mode with the browser up.
