sometimes (google?) searches in the search box fail

my apologies for this nebulous bug, but I've seen this a couple times and so has robert, so I figured I'd start a bug on it.

sometimes I will type something in the search area (defaulted to google) and it will not respond when I hit enter.  additionally, I do not get any suggestions.

this is on my debug, fresh, branch 1.8 build.  

robert has seen it too, and for him, he said he checked the console and did not see any suspicious errors.

I want to say that after I have this problem, I'm not able to search again until I switch tabs, but I can't remember for certain.

finally, I want to say it may be related to search autocomplete, but I have no proof.

don't you love bugs like this?

if it happens again, I'll attempt to attach and debug.

This has to do with the autocomplete lag for requests to the server, and it's caching of the "enter" event. It happens more frequently when your internet connection is bogged down, I've noticed.
