The preloaded lists of already-reported bugs are long and
hard to search by eye, making it highly tempting to skip the step.
Bugzilla should do more context-sensitive filtering, so that if a user starts to enter an addressbook bug they should be shown a list of open/hot addressbook bugs,
not ones for all the other components
With a bit more smarts and CPU power, it could update a list of possibly matching bugs as the user enters more and more detail on the new bug, hence
integrating the "search existing bugs" feature with "enter new bug"
Reproducible: Always

Yeah, we have various bugs for "make 'My Bugs' better." It's definitely something we want to work on.
I'd probably mark this bug as a dup of one of those, but I don't particularly feel like searching for it right now. :-) Reporter, want to search for bugs with the words "my bugs" or similar things in the title, and dup yours to the one that you feel best represents your request?

Max, why is this is "My Bugs" thing?? Isn't this is about the dupe list on the guided entry form?

Yes it is.

Hm, maybe, but don't forget that (at BMO, at least) many bugs are initially entered into a "General" component where they don't really belong.
Maybe an option to make the search wider instead? Search Core+Toolkit in addition when the Product is Firefox, plus MailNews_Core for Thunderbird? (This might mean adding a Product column to the buglist framed into enter_bug.cgi?format=guided.) (And I know client software bugs occasionally get moved elsewhere too, e.g. Fx -> NSPR or Sm -> Tech_Evangelism, but that's more marginal.)
Oh, and BTW, isn't the guided form a Mozilla-specific customization? In that case this bug might belong in mozilla.org/Bugzilla:Other_b.m.o._Issues rather than under Bugzilla?

in the case of "General" (which is quite the mis-mash of issues) perhaps it should favor the product, not a component

That's sort of Bug 549071 - Guided bug entry form for Thunderbird doesn't search mailnews core - addresses the issues of Mailnews Core. But the BMO folks are redoing the guided process very soon, per dkl
