We'd like to give new users, who are likely to be unfamiliar with add-ons, an easy on-ramp to get introduced to the concept and download one. cbeard suggests a "Bookmarks Addons" link that takes us to a page on addons.m.c, with a few known-good and easy-to-use bookmark-related add-ons. Or failing that, the regular bookmarks section of the site -- but personally, I don't think that page is going to help anyone: https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?cat=22&app=firefox&appfilter=firefox&type=E Paul: can I rely on you to select which add-ons are winners here, according to whichever criteria you and cbeard fancy?

I definitely think we need a better landing page than the link suggested. It's too intimidating and inconsistent a user experience. My suggestions is that we build a custom page to be hosted at https://addons.mozilla.org/bookmarks and include a limited set of extensions which then point to the detailed pages for each extension.
We'd definitely like to take this, but won't block on it until we get a commitment (perhaps in the form of a bug) from AMO to actually have this landing page (localized, I suppose!) ready for us.

Hey Phil - I'll review this request with Chris but I'm sure we'll want to get input on the best bookmarks add-ons from a broader set of people than just me and him. Specifically we'll want to get Mike Shaver's blessing on any add-ons we choose to highlight as AMO is Mike's purview. Paul
No doubt; I could not agree more. I just wanted someone to take responsibility for doing all that, and I thought I could maybe trick you. :)
So is the problem to be solved "introduce users to add-ons", or "point users at bookmark add-ons"? This bug makes it sound like the latter, but I think I need to now a little more about the process that took us from the former problem to make good recommendations here. The site is going to change dramatically over the next month or two, so URLs and critique of the current category display are much less useful to me than requirements or goals!
(In reply to comment #5) > So is the problem to be solved "introduce users to add-ons", or "point users at > bookmark add-ons"? This bug makes it sound like the latter, but I think I need > to now a little more about the process that took us from the former problem to > make good recommendations here. The requirement as presented to me was to add a bookmark that shows users some useful bookmark-related add-ons -- to which I would add that having a shorter list of known-good add-ons seems highly desirable compared to an unvetted list. I think this bug broadly covers two decisions: - an AMO infrastructure decision about where this page lives / how it's stored and managed - a marketing decision about the content of the page As for the process that led us to this point, that's a conversation you'd have to have with Chris.
Chris can add additional flavor.... - There is a significant level of interest from our user and developer community around bookmark extensions - There are some very good solutions that have been developed (Foxmarks, Delicious, Bookmark Synchronizer, Google Browser Sync, new Yahoo Frecency extension, etc....) The requirement is: - Introduce new and existing users to Bookmark addons/services (P1) The least intrusive solution was include a new link in the bookmarks menu that links to a Bookmarks landing page on AMO.
Adding a link in the default bookmarks list doesn't expose it to existing users, so we'll need to figure something else out there.
In light of the requirement in comment 7, and the fact that the proposed solution won't meet it (see comment 8), is this WONTFIX? Bueller?
Phil told me I could do this; new profiles will have a bookmark to "Customize Firefox" which can have links to AMO and specific customizations (such as bookmark partners). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 348165 ***

That is, adding a link to "Bookmark Add-ons..."
