Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060707 Firefox/2.0b1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060707 Firefox/2.0b1 I installed dictionaries from http://www.mozilla.com/products/thunderbird/dictionaries.html They got installed into: firefox\components\myspell instead of: firefox\dictionaries The dictionaries are not recognized after installing them. When I move the files from firefox\components\myspell to firefox\dictionaries, everything works as expected. I downloaded the .zip of Firefox 2.0 beta 1 for windows, not the installer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. go to http://www.mozilla.com/products/thunderbird/dictionaries.html 2. download: German (Germany) 3. go to a page with a textarea and type some German text 4. right click the textarea, the "German" is not in the list of dictionaries Actual Results: Dictionaries got installed into: firefox\components\myspell Expected Results: Dictionaries should go to: firefox\dictionaries Moving files manually to the correct location makes it work.

I can confirm that, I've got exactly the same behavior on the Mac: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060710 Firefox/2.0b1 ID:2006071020
All the dictionaries at that page are links to dictionaries.mozdev.org so there could be a bug opened in the MozDev bugzilla (I didn't find one). There are also plans to provide dictionaries at addons.m.o - bug 343076 - and packaged as extensions so that uninstall is easier.
I think you installed Thunderbird dictionaries into Firefox (notice http://www.mozilla.com/products/thunderbird/dictionaries.html) and that's why it's not working. This bug should be closed as INVALID, but I don't have the proper privileges to do that.
@ Jackie (#3): the intention WAS to install Thunderbird dictionaries in Firefox, like it's mentioned in the notification you get after right-clicking e.g. in the Additional Comments textbox above, selecting Languages -> Add dictionaries. So, I think this bug is surely not invalid.
Sorry, my bad. Firefox does direct you to download dictionaries from the Thunderbird page because they will also work. And they do after copying them to the bonecho\dictionaries. Consider this confirmed, but I don't have the proper permissions yet (soon to be getting them, hopefully...I've emailed Gerv).
The problem here is with the dictionaries not being packaged correctly and will be taken care of in bug 343076. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 343076 ***
